Yesterday evening at about 4:50pm, just as it was beginning to get dark, I had my own Somerset Starling Spectacular over my back garden in Barnstaple. There must have been c4000-5000 swirling about overhead. When they roosted in the Alders and Poplars behind my bungalow, the trees were black with birds.
It may not have been as impressive as the numbers on the Somerset Levels but was something special to watch and hear. I don`t think I`ve seen a similar sight before in Barnstaple.
