At 10.00 a quick count of waterfowl on the lagoon revealed 217 wigeon, 30+ shoveller, 35+ teal (more were hidden in the shore-line vegetation) and 142 coot. Another 50 or so wigeon flew in from the estuary at about 11.00. An immature spoonbill was roosting on the lagoon throughout the visit rarely showing its head. Legs black with no rings or flags.
Out on the estuary a comic tern was flying up and down just south of the Goat Walk. A large group of waders were feeding tight to the reed-beds and impossible to view. Once when they flew up I saw c300 black-tailed godwits, 2 avocets and 2 golden plovers. On the canal bank a few chiffchaffs called from the bushes and 7 skylarks flew over.
