Exminster Marshes

A late afternoon visit just before and during the rain that arrived at 5.00pm. Initially there seemed to be lots of birds about with chiffchaffs calling everywhere but in the end I only saw 12. Two flocks of long tailed tits were accompanied by at least 3 blackcaps. A single sedge warbler was seen in the canal side vegetation.
On the recently cut fields to the NW of the railway bridge were 11 yellow wagtails, 20+ white wagtails and about 10 pied wagtails. There were also 6 or so meadow pipits.
Over head 31 wigeon flew south and 5 sand martins were with about 20 swallows.
At Turf an adult arctic tern was sitting on drift wood in the channel. Also there were 4 wheatears and a couple more yellow wagtails.
