Thurlestone Bay

Another memorable wader day- totals on the beaches & the marshes were:- 85 Ringed Plover, 33 Sanderling, 45 Dunlin, 1 Turnstone, 1 Curlew, 1 Redshank, 1 Little Stint, 1 Wood sandpiper , 1 Snipe, 3 Black T Godwit ( first record of more than 1 this year ) -This makes 15 species inthe last 2 days.

Roger Short has been extending his ringing activities to try for waders- 2hrs this aft resulted in 2 Sanderling caught on Leasfoot beach- one weighed 77 g the other only 40g - looking thru Devon bird reports 2004 states only 7 had been ringed since 1971( none listed since ) They were also a new species for him - well done Roger.

Early this am Bob B had a flock oe 40 Yellow Wags with cattle in a field adjacent to S M Ley., with 2 Whinchat . The ringing team had 30 Sedge, 7 Reed., 6 Willow, 10 Blackcap, 3 Chiffchaff, 3 garden , 1 Groppa.
