Prawle this weekend

This Sanderling was the only wader of note from this morning's WeBS count.

Other birds today included a Snipe flying west (first of the autumn), 3 Swifts and 2 Sand Martins with an ever increasing gathering of House Martins and Swallows, numbering several hundred of each by early afternoon, a Wheatear, 2 Meadow Pipits (also the first of the autumn), 30 Whitethroats, 8 Blackcaps, 2 Sedge Warblers, 16 Willow Warblers, but just 6 Chiffchaffs today.

Saturday 13/8; Seawatching from 06.00 - 10.00 produced c750 Gannets, 110 Manx and 8 Balearic Shearwaters, 28 Common Scoters, Curlew, 2 Whimbrel, 4 each of Great and Arctic Skuas, 78 Kittiwakes and 2 Puffins. Elsewhere, a juvenile Yellow-legged Gull was on the airfields, and other other birds today included a Hobby, 11 Swifts, 3 Wheatears, Redstart, 2 Sedge Warblers, 30 Whitethroats, 8 Blackcaps, 6 Willow Warblers and 24 Chiffchaffs.
