Great to find the Bittern back on the flooded fields north of White Bridge this afternoon. It was typically elusive in the rushes before finally showing well out in the open for a minute in the late afternoon sunshine. Interestingly it has appeared on almost the exact day it turned up in 2010 (11th Jan in 2010) , assuming it is a returning bird.
Another evening visit to Colaton Raleigh Common resulted in just a brief view of a ringtail Hen Harrier.
