Grand Western Canal

Between Halberton and Tiverton there was the undisputable highlight of four Goosanders flushed from the canal by the golf course by dawn dog walkers. Two drakes and two females. A rare canal tick. I had seen two drakes and two females on the River Exe not too long ago and suspect the rising river sent them over to the canal.

Other notables include eleven Reed Buntings, two Goldcrest, nine Fieldfares, a hundred and forty five Redwings, five Bullfinches, two Stock Doves, two Marsh Tits, four Nuthatches and eleven Siskins.

Ray Jones had a female Gadwall out towards Burlescombe which is another good canal bird.
