Bowling Green Marsh

A nice selection of waders present on the rising tide this afternoon: single Little Stint, Common Sandpiper and Spotted Redshank, two each of Curlew Sandpiper and Green Sandpiper and a handful of Greenshank amongst a respectable number of Curlew and Black-tailed Godwit (incl. 2 colour-ringed birds, but very few juveniles). There were 8 Avocet on the Clyst (one colour-ringed, which may be the Cambridge-ringed bird of last winter returning) and a further one opposite the Goatwalk.

If anyone's looking at Redshank, there was a Dutch-ringed female hanging around Turf last winter which paired with another marked bird and successfully reared four chicks this year: would be interesting to see if she returns to the same area. Worth keeping an eye out for her: white ring on the tarsus inscribed 'C73'. I'll happily post more detail if anyone's interested.
