River Taw Barnstaple

Anchor Wood Bank and Penhill Marsh 11:30 – 13:00

Very cold but lovely sunny morning.Lots of birds around feeding in close to the Tarka trail on the Anchor wood side of the estuary including 500+ Dunlin, 20 Teal, and 12 Sanderling as well as the usual Curlew, Redshank, Oystercatcher, Lapwing and Shelduck.

On Penhill Marsh was 12 Brent mixed in with the Canada flock also a very large flock of Wigeon c600 +.

On the non river side of the trail there were lots of Fieldfare and Redwing feeding in the berry bushes.
